WV Healthcare Safety, Quality and Experience Improvement Research Day
The West Virginia Healthcare Safety, Quality and Experience Improvement Research Day, also known as the QI Fair, is designed to highlight the continuous efforts of doctors, staff, residents, fellows, students and researchers to improve outcomes for our patients and their families.
This research fair is hosted by the WVU School of Medicine, WVU Medicine and WVU Health Sciences and provides a platform for WVU healthcare workers and trainees to prepare and present oral and poster presentations focused on improving outcomes for patients and communities.
With more than 70 posters, 10 oral presentations and three speakers from across the WVU Medicine system, there’s a true opportunity to learn about topics relevant to your expertise.
Featured Speakers
Harold Pincus, M.D.
Dr. Pincus is professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Healthcare Policy and Management and co-director of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Pincus is also senior scientist at the RAND Corporation and national director of the Health and Aging Policy Fellowship. Appointed to the editorial boards of 12 scientific journals, he has published over 500 scientific publications on health services research, science policy, research career development, and the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. He has led national and international committees on healthcare quality measures, translational science evaluation, the World Health Organization’s ICD-11, and the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-IV.
Michael Edmond, M.D., MPH, MPA, MBA
Dr. Edmond is the Chief Medical Officer of WVU Medicine, University Health Associates and System Medical Group, and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs at the WVU School of Medicine. Prior to coming to WVU, he was the Chief Quality Officer and Associate Chief Medical Officer for University of Iowa Health Care and Clinical Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He also previously served as the Richard P. Wenzel Professor of Internal Medicine, Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and Hospital Epidemiologist at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine (MD), the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (MPH), the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University (MPA), and the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business (MBA). He was a resident and chief resident in Internal Medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals. He then completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a fellowship in Hospital Epidemiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Edmond’s scholarly focus has been on the epidemiology of healthcare-associated infections and the public policy implications of infection prevention. He has published 450 papers, abstracts and book chapters.
Allison Suttle, M.D., MBA, FACOG
Dr. Suttle currently serves as the chief quality officer for the West Virginia University Health System and interim chair and assistant professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the WVU School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. Prior to arriving at WVU Medicine in October 2021, Dr. Suttle served as the chief medical officer for Sanford Health, a rural, 46-hospital health system in South Dakota. As chief medical officer, she led the development of standardization across the system by establishing specialty-specific clinical standards and performance standards. She also served as Sanford Health’s chief medical information officer. Dr. Suttle spent her earlier days in medicine at the bedside and in the exam room as a member of Sanford Obstetrics and Gynecology, eventually serving as the president of that practice. She received her medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School; did her postgraduate training in OB/GYN at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois; and studied biochemistry as an undergraduate at Brown. As she started to pivot to senior leadership positions, Dr. Suttle earned an M.B.A. from the University of Sioux Falls and completed the Wharton School’s Physician Leadership Academy. Dr. Suttle is a highly accomplished and innovative physician executive with extensive leadership experience in a large, geographically diverse integrated health systems. She can articulate a vision for the future, communicate a pathway forward, and successfully lead transformational change, positioning organizations for success. She has a consistent focus on improving the quality of patient care and envisioning new approaches to care delivery while leveraging technology solutions. Dr. Suttle is known for her collaborative style and her ability to effectively work across organizational boundaries, engage with stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement.
