The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is now accepting applications for its Minority Summer Fellowship Award though February 15th, 2019. Medical students from backgrounds under-represented in medicine are eligible (and encouraged!) to apply for this award. Visit the link to learn more.

WELLNESS AND GLOBAL HEALTH elective Jan 7-20, 2019. This elective will have several days of health and wellness education follow by a 9 day trip to Quito, Ecuador visiting hospitals, orphanages, and schools. For more information, email Dr. Lorenzetti. Cost will be around $2000 ($700 for flight and $1350 for room/board/transportation).
ELECTIVE – Preparing for Intern Year offered at the Morgantown campus. Sessions run from Feb 18-March 1 or March 4-March 15th. See attached Flier for details.

PEER EVALUATIONS will be scheduled on Monday, December 3rd. Peer evaluations must be completed, by all MS3 students on each campus, by Monday, December 10th. For more information, look for an email from Anna Lama about how to complete peer evaluations.

PBL EVALUATIONS Problem Based Learning (PBL) course, facilitator, and peer evaluations will be scheduled on Wednesday, November 28th. Peer and facilitator evaluations must be completed by Friday, December 7th. All Fall 2018 course evaluations are due by Friday, December 28. Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities
Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).
Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Audreanna James, OMS-III (ajames@osteo.wvsom.edu). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. End-of-Semester Preparations – Please be sure you have logged all required procedures in E-value PRIOR TO final exam dates. All H&P’s must be graded and turned in to your file in Student Services. Clerkship directors will be reviewing evaluations, case logs, and H&P’s for final narratives. If you need assistance obtaining graded H&P’s, contact Michelle Alder (alderm@wvumedicine.org).
Smiles for Life – MUST be completed for your specific Fall clerkships prior to exams. Please make sure you have printed the completion certificates and placed them in your H&P file at Eastern Student Services so clerkship directors can verify you have met this curriculum requirement.
