STUDENT ORGANIZATION HAPPENINGS:  RSVP accordingly!

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for White Coat Ceremony held on March 17th from 7:30am-1pm. Email Amy if interested and for more details. Only M1, M3, and M4 students can serve as volunteers for this event.

GOLD HUMANISM WEEK will be Feb 12-16. The lectures/panels will be from noon until 1 PM. Lunch will be provided for the first 50 people who arrive. See attached flyer for details of the events for each day.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:  Earn approx. 2-3 hours Community Service by participating in an educational research study that targets HIV patient education.  Please contact Jeannette Southerly or Carolyn Kidd  for information on how to participate.  

ANNUAL TALENT SHOW is March 20th, 6:00pm in Okey Patteson Auditorium. All proceeds go to WVU Children’s Hospital. Tickets may be purchased in the School of Medicine Student Services Office from Kim for $5 or at the door for $7.

What’s Happening – Morgantown

For more than two decades, Dr. Jim Withers has been doing street rounds in Pittsburgh, PA, providing medical care to the homeless. Withers, of Pittsburgh Mercy’s Operation Safety Net (OSN) and a 2015 Top 10 CNN Hero will be giving a talk on homelessness and street medicine on the WVU Health Sciences Campus on Monday February 12. The public event will be at noon in the Okey Patteson Auditorium. Guests are also invited for refreshments and the chance to speak with Dr. Withers following the talk in the Pylons area.

GRADUATION APPLICATION due March 2nd for May graduates. Find the link for applying with the University through MD Commencement Information page. This must be completed whether or not you choose to participate in the graduation ceremony.

FINANCIAL AID SEMINAR: Preparing Financially for Residency presented by the Financial Aid office and sponsored by Student Services will be held Monday, March 5 from 9-12:30 in Okey Patteson. RSVP required by March 1. Additionally, individual appointments are available on March 5th and March 6th. Visit the SOLE module entitled, Financial Management to sign up for ½ hour timeslot.

RSVP for Morgantown Match Day Celebration by March 9th. Match Day will be held at Lakeview Resort on Friday, March 16th beginning at 10:30am. You and up to 3 guests are invited to attend as we celebrate your successes together!

MS3 Class of 2019

CAMC Rural Health Partners Scholarship is accepting applications until March 30th. The Rural Health Partners Scholarship Program wants to collaborate with 3rd year students who are interested in matching into a CAMC residency program.  Scholarship recipients will receive mentoring during their 4th year in preparation for the residency program; experience a one-month rural health rotation at one of the participating rural sites; complete a required research project; and will then receive a $10,000 scholarship when they successfully graduate from medical school and match into one of the participating CAMC residency programs.

MS2 Class of 2020

SUMMER REGISTRATION needs to be completed by February 15th. Check your email for the CRN’s needed for the Summer Courses. These will include Step 1 and your Block 1 Clerkship. Contact Kim or Amy with questions.

FAMILY MEDICINE RURAL rotation request forms are due February 16. Check your email for details and a link to complete your requests. Send questions to Heather Hanks, Program Coordinator.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

VOLUNTEER SPEAKING OPPORTUNITY Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session.  Meetings held 6:30-8:30pm on second Thursday of each month, 2nd floor of Dorothy McCormack Building.  Contact Dr. Paul Kradel, 304-267-2520, if interested. 

STEPPING STONES/GOOD SMARITAN FREE CLINIC Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  Women’s health and pediatrics to be added soon on an alternate evening.  To volunteer or for additional information: MS3 Ayita Verna.
