WOMEN IN MEDICINE SCHOLARSHIPS are open for application. Four, $5,000 LGBTQ Leadership Scholarships for female medical students M1-M3. Deadline for application is April 1, 2018. The scholarship will be presented at the National WIM meeting in Napa, California on August 5-August 9th. For more information visit Women In Medicine.

ANNUAL TALENT SHOW is March 20th, 6:00pm in Okey Patteson Auditorium. All proceeds go to WVU Children’s Hospital. Tickets may be purchased in the School of Medicine Student Services Office from Kim for $5 or at the door for $7.

CAMC Rural Health Partners Scholarship is accepting applications until March 30th. The Rural Health Partners Scholarship Program wants to collaborate with 3rd year students who are interested in matching into a CAMC residency program. Scholarship recipients will receive mentoring during their 4th year in preparation for the residency program; experience a one-month rural health rotation at one of the participating rural sites; complete a required research project; and will then receive a $10,000 scholarship when they successfully graduate from medical school and match into one of the participating CAMC residency programs.
WVU-CHARLESTON FAMILY MEDICINE RURAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM application deadline will be MARCH 31, 2018. Interviews will be scheduled in early April, 2018. Questions? Contact Telista Snyder, 304-388-4630, or Dr Bors.

MS2 CHARLESTON DINNER Student Services will be hosting its annual MSII dinner/meeting on Monday March 19, 2018 at 5:00PM at the Waterfront Marriott in Morgantown. All MSII Charleston Campus students are expected to attend. If you are married or have a significant other that will be moving to Charleston with you, please RSVP and bring them as well. We will be bringing with us current MSIII and MSIV students to provide information on clerkships, housing, Charleston life, tips for success and other nuggets of wisdom. CULINARY & LIFESTYLE MEDICINE Are you interested in applying for our new Culinary and Lifestyle Medicine Track? Please see details about the track and the application here. The deadline for applications is March 15th for current first year students, because there is an externship attached to the track for the summer after first year. Acceptances will be determined by April 1, 2018 to allow students time to make decisions and plans. (FYI: Students cannot be enrolled in more than 2 tracks at WVUSOM at one time - to allow for enough time to complete the duties of each track.)

What’s Happening – Charleston
GHHS WEEK Gold Humanism Honor Society Solidarity Week and the Charleston Campus GHHS Chapter wanted to let you what we are doing to encourage humanism in medicine. Our chapter designed posters that are displayed in the main lobby and throughout the waiting areas of CAMC Memorial, General and Women & Children’s Hospitals. The purpose is to thank our lovely patients and their families for allowing us to “be their medical students”. We recognize that without the support of our patients and their families, we could not be where we are today. In addition, we will be hosting the GHHS Annual Summit on Thursday, April 5, 2018 entitled, “The Invisible Minority: Healthcare Disparities in Appalachia” and will continue to keep you informed on the exciting day of lectures ahead!

GQ WEEK March 5-9th 4th year students who complete the GQ questionnaire will be entered every day this week for a small prize! You must send your GQ to me by 4:00 PM every day to be entered!(AAMC completion notice is your entry ticket for the drawings; email here or present to Student Services.)**You only have to send me your GQ confirmation one time. You will be re-entered everyday automatically.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities
VOLUNTEER SPEAKING OPPORTUNITY Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session. STEPPING STONES/GOOD SMARITAN FREE CLINIC Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. FUN Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Mural Painting Night – Wed., Mar. 14th, 5-6:30pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. This is an opportunity for the Class of 2018 to paint a mural that will be displayed at the Eastern Campus.
