What’s Happening – Morgantown

IPE COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY Interested in a community service opportunity that targets an innovative forensic science house project? The Inter-Professional Education activity brings together medical, OT, graduate, and pharmacy students to do a standardized home assessment.

MS4 Class of 2019

WELLNESS AND GLOBAL HEALTH elective Jan 7-20, 2019. This elective will have several days of health and wellness education follow by a 9 day trip to Quito, Ecuador visiting hospitals, orphanages, and schools. For more information, email Dr. Lorenzetti. Cost will be around $2000 ($700 for flight and $1350 for room/board/transportation).

MAY COMMENCEMENT DATE has been released! MD Ceremony is Friday, May 10^th @ 7:00pm at the Creative Arts Center. Contact Amy if you have any questions.

PEDIATRIC RESIDENCY RURAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM is a great opportunity for the future Pediatricians in the Class who want to make a major positive impact in the lives of the children of WV and beyond.  Please view the attached announcement about our Program, and you will be impressed with the outstanding benefits for you.  Do not hesitate to contact Dr. Nield or Dr. Nease with your questions.

MANDATORY GTR SESSION. Getting to Residency 0.5 is Wednesday, November 14^th  at 4:00pm in 1901. This is your first GTR with an introduction to the match process and course scheduling for spring.

SAVE THE DATE. Getting to 4^th Year Orientation will be held on February 4^th at 4:30pm in 1901. You’ll learn about the 4^th year curriculum, scheduling rotations, the Match process and more.

MS2 Class of 2021

SAVE THE DATE: Professional & Career Development 2.5 – Getting to M3 will be held on Friday, January 11 from 1-4pm in 1905. You will be fitted for your White Coat, learn about the M3 Curriculum; discuss scheduling 3^rd year blocks and more.

WHITE COAT CEREMONY Saturday, March 23 @ 2pm at the Waterfront Place Hotel. More details to come!

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3^rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. December Graduates – MD ceremony scheduled for Sat., Dec. 15^th, 2018, 10am, at the Coliseum in Morgantown.  Graduation application portal is now open.  You MUST apply for graduation via STAR or DegreeWorks.  Contact Amy Drvar (amy.drvar@hsc.wvu.edu) to advise of your plans to participate in the ceremony or to ask any questions.

Wellness and Global Health Elective – Jan. 7-20, 2019.  Elective consists of several days of health/wellness education leading into a 9-day trip to Quito, Ecuador, to visit hospitals, orphanages, and schools.  Cost: approx. $2,000, includes flight and room/board/transportation.  For information, contact Dr. Rosie Lorenzetti (cannarellar@wvumedicine.org).
