What’s Happening – Morgantown

GLOBAL HEALTH WEEK Oct 15-19. There will be lectures every day in 1905 on global health topics. Student groups related to these topics will have posters on display outside of the bookstore on the ground floor. Check out the flyer for more information!

BE AWARE Active Shooter Training will be taking place in HSC on Oct 17. There will be an increased traffic of police and EMS for role-playing in the area. Organizers have taken precautions to mitigate any loud noises or disturbances outside of the Okey Patteson auditorium in which the training will be taking place.

WVU CANCER INSTITUTE meeting is going to include some pretty high level speakers throughout the day, including Ned Sharpless (director of the NCI), Robert Croyle (NIH director of the division of cancer and population sciences), and Norman Wolmark (chair of NSABP). Several investigators from the cancer center will also be speaking. The event will take place at the Erikson Alumni Center on Thursday, October 18th. ERAS TRANSCRIPT RELEASE - It has been brought to our attention that there has been a bug in ERAS regarding USMLE transcripts releasing for some applications. If you are low on interview offers, check to ensure your USMLE transcripts were released to the schools where you have applied.

SAVE THE DATE. Getting to Residency 0.5 will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 4:00pm in 1901. This is your first GTR with an introduction to the match process and course scheduling for spring.

MS2 Class of 2021

Y2Q WEEK! Bring your phone, laptop or paper receipt to Student Services showing that you completed the Y2Q to enter into a daily prize drawing! Remember if your class get 100% completion on the Y2Q, you will receive additional funds for wellness events. You are already at 73% - great job!

MS2 VOLUNTEERS needed to help with a gross anatomy lab, which is coordinated by Dr. Klinkhachorn and Dr. Meigh for the undergraduate students in the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).  The structure of the lab is based on stations highlighting the anatomy of the head, neck, and torso. You will earn community service hours for your time, and Dr. Klinkhachorn can advise you as to the amount of time you can count for this lab experience. The current proposed date for this lab is MONDAY, November 5th from 1:00pm-2:00pm. If you are interested in helping, please contact Dr. Meigh.

Cost will be around $2000 ($700 for flight and $1350 for room/board/transportation).

DECEMBER GRADUATES MD Ceremony will be held Saturday, December 15 @ 10:00am at the Coliseum. The graduation application portal is now open! You MUST apply for graduation via STAR or DegreeWorks. Contact Amy to let Student Services know about your plans for participation in the ceremony and if you have any questions.

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations.
