2019 SOM DISTINGUISHED TEACHER AWARD Nominations are now open! Please take a moment to consider and recognize excellent teaching/learning experiences at WVU SOM. Nominations are open through April 12.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Second Look Weekend: The admissions office is in the process of planning the annual "Second Look Weekend" for those accepted into the Class of 2023. We are looking for students to attend a dinner/social event on Friday, April 26th from 6-9pm at Evansdale Crossing. This event is particularly important, as it lets our incoming students feel connected with current students. Please email Aly Carpenter if you would like to come to the dinner!

What’s Happening – Morgantown

WELLNESS CLASSES. Yoga for the Professional Student. Classes offered at 3pm in Room G278. Register online.

HSC IPE Week March 18-22. A mobile escape room in the Pylons will kick off the event. Register your team of 4-6 people from at least two disciplines. Check out the rest of the week’s events.

BWELL APPOINTMENTS OFFERED for Medical students. Confidential, private appointments for initial assessments, triage and brief interventions for students experiencing life stress, mental illness or problems with alcohol or substance use. MATCH DAY! Please read Christina’s email regarding Match Day Ceremony. If you have not RSVP’d please do so ASAP. We will begin at 10:30am at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown. Remember, up to 3 guests are invited. We’re very excited to celebrate with you!

IT’S ALMOST MATCH WEEK!! This Friday, March 8, 2019, all applicants will receive an email from the National Resident Matching Program® pertaining to SOAP eligibility. This notification is NOT an indication of whether applicants are matched or unmatched but rather an indication of their ability to participate in SOAP if they learn on Monday of Match Week (11:30 am EST) that they are unmatched or partially matched. In preparing your schedule for Match Week, please further note that Daylight Savings Time starts at 2:00 a.m. ET, Sunday March 10. You’ll likely receive additional emails regarding the timelines for NRMP Match and SOAP in preparation for next week. Keep in contact with your Campus Deans as needed. We’re going to have a great match!

GLOBAL HEALTH ROTATION Dr. Cannarella Lorenzetti (from Eastern Campus) on a humanitarian global health trip with the Patch Adams organization. Dr. Lorenzetti is planning now to go to Morocco in last several days March /first week April 2020 with same organization.

WVU-MORGANTOWN FAMILY MEDIINE RURAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM application deadline is April 1. This program is designed for students committed to making rural/small town Family Medicine in WV as a career. WHITE COAT CEREMONY - Saturday, March 23 @ 2pm at the Morgantown Event Center. White Coat lunch meeting will be held March 18 at 12pm in 1905. Rehearsal will be on Friday, March 22 @ 2pm.

CULINARY TRACK There is one opening in the Culinary track for a current first year students

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3^rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Audreanna James, OMS-III (ajames@osteo.wvsom.edu). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2^nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. Graduate Medical Questionnaire – All 4^th year medical students are asked to complete regarding your medical student learning experience. 100% participation is encouraged. Students who complete the survey will be entered into a prize drawing for a Sheetz gift card, to be held on Mar. 1^st. After completion of the survey, be sure to save or print the certificate and email to Jane Horst (horstj@wvumedicine.org) to verify and be eligible for the drawing.

Class of 2019 MATCH Celebration – Fri., Mar. 15^th, at Purple Iris in Martinsburg, WV. Arrival at venue may begin approximately 11:30am, with envelope distribution at 12:01pm and luncheon immediately following. MS4 Financial Workshop – Thur., Mar. 21^st, 10am-2pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Representatives from WVU Financial Aid office will be here to review information regarding financial planning, loan repayment, etc., as you prepare for residency. Graduation Deadlines

May 1^st – All graduation requirements must be met. Includes passing scores on Step 2 CS, CK, CPX, 100 hours of community service, and satisfactory evaluations in all 4^th year clerkships.

Financial Planning – On Thur., Mar. 21^st, representatives from WVU Financial Aid office will be on-site for a financial workshop with Eastern 4^th year students. If any 3^rd year students have questions regarding financial aid or loan repayment, the reps will be available briefly after 5pm.
