FARMER’S MARKET OPENS on Wednesday, May 22^nd. This year the market will be moved closer to the HSC North Pylons entrance.

APPOINTMENTS OFFERED for Medical students. Confidential, private appointments for initial assessments, triage and brief interventions for students experiencing life stress, mental illness or problems with alcohol or substance use. PEDS Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Tumor Board – Thur., May 23^rd, 12-1pm, in BMC 8^th Floor Classroom. Topic: “Splenic Flexure Adenocarcinoma” presented by Dr. Sam Wanko (Hem/Onc) and Dr. Tiffany Harper (Pathology).

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, May 8^th-Dec. 18^th, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

Community Mini-Med School – Tue., May 21^st, 7pm, in Eastern HSC Auditorium. Topic: “Brain Food: Food, Movement, and Brain Health” presented by Dr. Apoorv Prasad, WVU Medicine MedCHEFS and Metabolic Center Faculty. Medical students will assist with food demos/tastings.

Evidence Based Medicine Review – Wed., May 22^nd, 12-1pm, in BMC 8^th Floor Classroom. Topic: “Management of Sepsis in Adults” presented by Dr. Matthew Simmons (Infectious Disease) and Kalindi Patel, PharmD.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Relay for Life Volunteers Needed – Berkeley County: June 1^st, 12pm-6am, at Martinsburg High School; Jefferson County: June 22^nd, 6pm-6am, at Jefferson High School. Assistance needed in a variety of areas, including setup/tear-down, registration, accounting, silent auction, and luminarias. To volunteer or for additional information, contact Dana DeJarnett: dana.dejarnett@wvumedicine.org.

Sports Physicals – June 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th, 5:30-8:30pm, at Dorothy McCormack Center. Medical students needed to assist Dr. Cathy Funk and other physicians with providing sports physicals to high school athletes. This is a great service to the community and has helped to bring health issues to light.

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3^rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Audreanna James, OMS-III (ajames@osteo.wvsom.edu). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2^nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. VSAS Transcripts – If you need a transcript for VSAS, please contact Eastern Student Services office.

NAU MODULE: Be sure to complete your required IV start on a patient in the hospital under nurse supervision. Go to either Same-Day Surgery or Emergency Department at BMC to complete this task.

Computers – Please bring your laptops to Student Services on the afternoon of Friday, June 7^th, to allow IT to clear them for secure final exam testing.

End-of-Semester Luncheon – Thur., June 20^th, in HSC Mountaineer Room immediately after final testing (approx. 12:00pm).
