Geriatrics Interest Group

Bylaws

I. Purpose
A. The purpose of the Geriatrics Interest Group at the WVU School of Medicine shall be to:
I. Encourage and develop the interests of medical students in the field of geriatric medicine.
II. Provide opportunities for medical students to engage with geriatric patients in the Morgantown community.
III. Better prepare medical students to treat our aging population.
II. Membership
A. Membership shall be open to all students of the WVU School of Medicine.
III. Officers
A. In order to hold an elected or appointed office in this organization, a member must be in good standing with the WVU School of Medicine at the time of election or appointment and must be a full time student.
B. Offices
I. The President is the spokesperson for the organization. The President presides at all meetings.
II. The Vice-President shall serve as President when the President is unable to do so.
III. The Treasurer shall be charged with handling all organizational finances.
IV. The Events Coordinator shall be charged with communications between students, the organization, and any external parties.
IV. Meetings
A. Geriatrics Interest Group will meet at least two times per academic year.
B. Adequate advance notice must be given to all active members.
C. The President with the consent of the Vice President may change meeting frequency.
D. Members shall be notified of all meetings by email.
V. Publications and Other Communication Media
A. Communication with members will occur via email, and will contain any meeting times or volunteer opportunities.
B. Members are allowed and encouraged to submit ideas for volunteer endeavors or speakers via email, which will be subject to approval by the board
