Message from the Division Chief

Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at West Virginia University Medicine. We are an academic medical center committed to excellence in patient care, medical education, and teaching, as well as translational and clinical research. Our Mission aligns with those of the Department of Medicine and the WVU Medicine Health System.

Our division aims to meet the needs of citizens in West Virginia as well as the bordering regions of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio. In addition to our existing faculty at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital, we have expanded to surrounding locations for clinical and endoscopic services. Our talented providers come from different institutions and are a well-trained group of professionals. Recruitment efforts are ongoing as we continue to expand and grow.

Our Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Center for Liver Diseases, and the Advanced Center for Endoscopy offer providers and procedures not available in many parts of the state and region. Our specialty-trained physicians and advanced endoscopists manage all aspects of gastrointestinal, hepatic, and pancreaticobiliary care and perform procedures. We want patients to remain in West Virginia to obtain world-class specialized care and have the goal of establishing a liver transplant program in the future.

In addition to our growth in clinical services, our expanded GI and Hepatology fellowship program has enhanced our academic and educational missions. A fourth-year therapeutic endoscopy fellowship has been successful with graduates now providing care that was learned at WVU.

We are committed to improving the health of all citizens in West Virginia and surrounding locations and remain the academic leader in the state. We will continue to make strides in ensuring our division achieves greatness in all areas of clinical care, education and research.
