Message from the Division Chief
As Chief of the WVU Division of Hospital Medicine, I am tremendously proud that our hospitalist group provides the highest quality of inpatient and post-acute care in the state of West Virginia. We remain the largest division in the Department of Medicine at the flagship medical center in the state of West Virginia. Our division is full of physicians and advanced practice professionals who specialize in inpatient care, transitions of care, and post-acute care.
Our hospitalist group is unique in the wide range of teams we staff including teaching services, inpatient end-stage renal disease care, inpatient oncology care, inpatient traumatic fracture service, and more. Our physicians and advanced practice professionals are also dedicated teachers of our medical students, residents, fellows, and physician assistant students. Our hospitalists thrive in an environment that allows for personal growth, work life balance, and opportunities for advancement. Numerous alumni of our division now hold faculty positions in multiple subspecialties including cardiology, nephrology, hematology/oncology, orthopedic medicine, and pulmonary critical care.
We are proud to provide a service to the West Virginia community as well as the surrounding referral region of WVU Medicine. The division has seen tremendous growth and expansion, and currently manages approximately 200 patient encounters per day. We have 16 teams that care for general hospitalized adults as well as multiple disease specific specialty cases including geriatric trauma patients, oncology patients, end-stage renal disease patients, long-term antibiotic and infusion patients, as well as skilled nursing facility/post-acute care patients. We are considered the central hub of inpatient medicine across the institution and provide collaborative and consultative services to nearly all inpatient service lines, both surgical and medical, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
