Mission
To advance the world’s health by promoting awareness and interest in global health issues among the WVU Health Sciences Center community.
Goals
To provide education, collaboration, and service opportunities in global outreach for WVU health professions students, residents, faculty and staff. Partnership with WVU Global Engagement office (GEO)
Activities
Annual Clinical Tropical Medicine and Traveler’s Health Course
- Began in 1995
- Participants – open to health care professionals and students from US and world-wide.
- 1 of 8 courses in the US accredited by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH)
- Entire course currently online
The Global Health Track for Medical Students
- Began in 2004
- The purpose of this special track is to enhance education in global health.
Global Health Week
- Began in 2003
- Annual event held by the GHP to increase awareness of global health issues among students, residents, faculty and staff.
Service and Educational Opportunities in Global Health
- Global health electives for WVU health professions students, residents and fellows.
- Clinical medicine and public health electives supervised by faculty at partnership clinics and hospitals abroad.
- Collaborations: Brazil, Figi, Ghana, Guatemala, Italy, Jamaica, Oman, Paraguay, Rwanda, and Spain.
