Welcome to the WVU Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program!

Message about our Program:

Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at West Virginia University.  We are a 4-year, ACGME accredited, training program currently approved for three residents per PGY-level.

We pride ourselves in our well-rounded training experience, while exposing and providing training in the depth and breadth of OB-GYN.  Our faculty consists of board-certified OB-GYN specialists along with subspecialists in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Urogynecology, and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Additionally, we offer training in the areas of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, family planning, and menopause/sexual medicine.  We currently do not have any fellowship training programs, which provides our residents with unchallenged access to all patient encounters and surgical procedures.

Located in Morgantown, WV, the area provides a small-town atmosphere while having the amenities of much larger cities.  Morgantown has a population of around 31,000 which increase by about 28,000 when WVU is in session.  Morgantown hosts many cultural events as well as NCAA Division 1 athletics within the Big 12 conference.  If you crave the big city, Pittsburgh is approximately 90 miles Northwest and Washington DC is an easy 3-hour dive to the East.  Cleveland, Columbus, Philadelphia, and New York are all easily reached in less than a day’s drive.  More information about Morgantown can be found at:

Our program is based out of the Health Sciences Campus of West Virginia University, with our primary training sites being Ruby Memorial Hospital and the newly opened WVU Children’s  .  Residents have the opportunity to rotate at a satellite location (United Hospital Center) in Bridgeport, WV.  As the only tertiary care center in the state, our residents see a wide variety of routine and highly complex patients, which greatly enhances their education.

Our residents are well prepared for whatever next steps after residency they desire, whether that is in a private practice, an academic setting, or subspecialty fellowship training.  We pride ourselves focusing on the “why’ of medical training, which is graduating residents we would feel comfortable caring for our own mothers, wives, daughters, or other family members.

We invite you to come see our program for yourself and the many wild and wonderful things West Virginia has to offer.  We hope to show you why Mountaineers Go First!!
