About Us

Welcome to the WVU Orthopaedics Residency!

Letter from the Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at West Virginia University.  The mission of our program is to prepare the men and women who choose to train here to be exceptional physicians, surgeons, and orthopaedic leaders in their communities and on the national level.  Orthopaedic surgery residents at West Virginia University are educated to be proficient in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery and to provide exceptional care to the people of West Virginia.

We recently received a complement increase, and our residency program now consists of 25 categorical positions following the traditional orthopaedic training curriculum and 1 research position.  The research position is a 6-year track with one year being dedicated to research after completion of the intern year. WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital, located in Morgantown, WV, is the epicenter for the training of our residents.  As a level-1 trauma center at an academic hospital in West Virginia, associated with a Big 12 university, there is ample opportunity to help treat and learn from a wide array of patients with a myriad of orthopaedic issues.

Our program has always differentiated itself from other programs based on two things: an early operative experience and an inviting culture in a supportive setting. We are truly a family at WVU, which allows for a collegial atmosphere and learning environment.

Thank you for your interest and LET’S GO MOUNTAINEERS!

Sincerely,

Michelle A. Bramer, MD

Associate Professor and Residency Program Director
