About Us
Letter from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Orthopaedic Residency Program at West Virginia University. The mission of our training program is provide the very best educational opportunities to the men and women that join our program while serving the needs of the people of West Virginia.
Our residency program consists of 20 categorical positions following the traditional orthopaedic training curriculum and 1 research position. The research position is a 6 year track with one year being dedicated to research after completion of the intern year. All of our rotations occur at Ruby Memorial Hospital on the main medical campus in Morgantown. There our residents have the opportunity to help treat and learn from a wide array of patients with a myriad of orthopaedic issues.
Our program has always differentiated itself from other programs based on two things; an early operative experience and a very close knit family atmosphere. This not only helps to make better surgeons, but better people. When I came to Morgantown, I knew this was a special place. Allow us to show you how special it truly is. Thank you for your interest and LET’S GO MOUNTAINEERS!
Sincerely,
Barry McDonough, MD
Associate Professor and Program Director
