Message from the Program Director

PROGRAM DIRECTOR - Brian Kellermeyer, MD

I am honored to be a part of the Otolaryngology residency training program here at West Virginia University.  My mission is to ensure an educational, supportive, and inspiring environment for physician development.  In addition to myself, our faculty are passionate about teaching, research, and mentoring trainees during their 5 years in residency, to produce successful surgeons in all areas of Otolaryngology.  Our training program offers a diverse experience with faculty subspecialists in all areas of Otolaryngology. Our department and hospital have seen tremendous growth over the last decade, which has lead to an increase in resident compliment for us - to 3 residents per year, starting in July 2020.   

Our program is a 5 year categorical program based mostly in Morgantown, West Virginia, with the exception of rotations during the PGY-4 year, at the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV - which is roughly a 45 minute drive away.  Training here offers residents and their families the best of small town living, combined with the advantages and opportunities associated with a major University.  Morgantown boasts outstanding public and private schools, quality athletic programs, and many arts and cultural programs, in an economically thriving small-town community.  It is consistently rated as one of the best small cities in the U.S., with close proximity to major cities, such as Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC. 

Our rigorous training program has produced graduates who are superbly trained Otolaryngologists, who go on to achieve success in their future practices, fellowships, and academic appointments.  In addition to excellent clinical and surgical skills gained during their training, our residents are also supported in research endeavors in clinical, translational, and basic science projects.  We have no limits of support for our residents who want to participate in local, regional, national, and international meetings to further their education and training, as well as represent the department in research presentations. Recently we have matched residents into prestigious fellowship in most subspecialties including pediatrics, facial plastics, neurotology, rhinology/skull base surgery, laryngology, and head/neck oncology. We strive to attract individuals who are dedicated, energetic, talented, and disciplined, to guide them to achieving their career goals, whatever that may be.
