Admission Classifications
The Program has established the following admissions classifications:
General Admissions
All applicants who have successfully completed their undergraduate degree (BS or BA) and who meet all the criteria for admission as outlined under Admission Requirements can apply December 1 to March 14.
Direct Admit
For current WVU students in the Histotechnology (HTL) and Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Programs only.
A limited number of students completing the Bachelor of Science degree in the HTL and MLS programs who have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 at the end of their junior year may apply to the Master of Health Science, Pathologists' Assistant Program.
Students in their junior year of MLS or HTL, who are interested in applying to the program as a direct admit, must notify the program specialist, Beth Ann McCormick (bmccormick@hsc.wvu.edu) before completing the online application. Following the committee’s review of the application, the student may be offered an interview.
Any student who is offered the direct admit status will be required to successfully graduate from their respective program (HTL or MLS) with no less than a 3.25 GPA and must remain in good academic and professional standing throughout the remainder of their undergraduate studies. Any direct admit student who fails to meet these criteria may have their offer of direct admit revoked.
Current Undergraduate Students
Students enrolled in their final year of undergraduate studies during the application period of December 1 to March 15 are eligible to apply to the program if the degree is conferred in May following the application period. For example, students graduating in May 2025 can apply during the December 1, 2024, to March 14, 2025, application period. Admission is contingent upon successful completion of the baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Any student admitted to the program who fails to meet these criteria may have the offer of admission revoked.
