Neuropathology
The neuropathology service provides diagnostic services on both frozen and permanent specimens generated by the neurosurgical service at WVU. Consultative services on similar specimens are also provided for other hospitals in the state and elsewhere. The neuropathology service also provides diagnostic service to the Ophthalmology Department with special emphasis on specimens from the corneal and oculoplastic services.
The neuropathology service regularly provides gross and microscopic examination of brains removed at the time of autopsy on patients from Ruby Memorial Hospital. In addition, brains removed in other hospitals are occasionally examined. The neuropathology service also provides consultative examination of brain specimens.
The neuropathology service provides diagnostic evaluation of muscle and occasional peripheral nerve biopsy specimens from Ruby Memorial Hospital and other hospitals in West Virginia and elsewhere.
