Professionalism
Residents must demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, and sensitivity to a diverse patient population. Punctuality, confidentiality of patient information, and commitment to life-long learning are important aspects of professionalism. The level of professionalism exhibited by the rotating resident will be assessed by consultation with staff members as appropriate, and evaluation criteria will include residents’:
- Ability to demonstrate respect, compassion, and integrity
- Responsiveness to the needs of patients that supersedes self-interest with prompt response to calls from the clinical section lab, faculty and clinicians during their Microbiology and on-call rotations
- Commitment to excellence and on-going professional development through utilization of study materials within the laboratory (e.g. slide files, image data bases, etc.)
