Neurodevelopmental Center
The Neurodevelopmental Center helps children who are having difficulties in the areas of development.
Services
We offer multi-disciplinary diagnostic evaluations for children displaying difficulties in the areas of development, including a question for Autism, ADD, Tourette Syndrome, and craniofacial abnormalities. Our core team includes a pediatric neurologist, a neurodevelopmental specialist, an educational psychologist, a social worker, and a parent educator. Children seen through the Center are between the ages of one and eight, with children who have a concern for ADD being accepted up to age eleven.
When a child is referred to our Clinic, a questionnaire packet is sent to the family for completion. Once this packet is returned, it goes through a screening process, and the child is either scheduled, wait-listed, or the physician is contacted due to the child being inappropriate for the Center.
Evaluations
If we determine that we can help your child, evaluations at our Neurodevelopmental Clinic usually take at least 2 hours. During this time our team will:
- learn more about your child's medical, behavioral, and developmental history
- observe your child as he or she plays and interacts with others
- complete diagnostic and developmental assessments
- Psychological assessments for concern of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Developmental Disability, ADHA, and Anxiety for children 0 to 12 years of age
- Behavioral consultations and therapy services for children and families with developmental disabilities ages 0 to 12 years of age
The team will then provide you with feedback about what we’ve learned and make recommendations for further evaluation or treatment. At the end of the appointment, you will be given an information sheet outlining our findings. You will receive a more extensive written report in about a month. Much of the report is devoted to recommendations for intervention and education.
Children seen in the Attention Deficit Disorder Clinic must return information from the school prior to the child’s appointment being scheduled.
Children with craniofacial abnormalities are referred by Pediatric Neurosurgery for developmental assessment.
Referrals
Due to insurance requirements, all children must now be referred by their primary care provider (PCP). A referral form is available by calling 304-598-4300 and asking for a form to be faxed to the PCP office. If our team does not think your child can be well-served by our clinic, we can offer you information about more appropriate resources. We do not offer related services such as speech, physical therapy or occupational therapy. We do not provide mental health services or counseling.
