About Us

The mission of the WVU Pediatrics Residency is to train and graduate pediatricians who have attained the knowledge and expertise to provide safe and effective pediatric care. The program aims to ensure clinical competency as a pediatrician, including health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic pediatric diseases in infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. The program instills knowledge, attitudes, and skills to initiate and maintain a systematic and continuing process of self-learning, including the ability to critically analyze medical literature. The program also strives to ensure an understanding of the health care system, including the roles of health care personnel, practice management, and the organization, regulation, and economies of health care in order to become local and national leaders to patients across all socio-economic and racial spectrums.

In addition to our Categorical Pediatric Residency, we also offer a well-established and integrated combined program in Medicine/Pediatrics.  Opportunities in sub-specialty training includes a fellowship in Neo-Natal Perinatal Medicine.  

West Virginia University has all of the traditional basic sciences and clinical departments, with active residency programs in all clinical disciplines. WVU Medicine offers state-of-the-art facilities at Ruby Memorial Hospital and the WVUM University Town Center Outpatient Clinic for both inpatient and ambulatory care. Our faculty and staff are very committed to our educational program, and there is an excellent interaction among residents, faculty, staff, and students.

WVU Medicine opened WVU Medicine Children's in 2022. This state-of-the-art hospital has dedicated entries, patient registration, administration, pediatric diagnostic imaging, laboratories, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization labs, and endoscopy facilities.
