Available Positions
The Categorical Pediatrics Program offers up to six PGY-1 positions each year.
Vacation
Residents are allowed 15 days of vacation per year. No more than 5 days of vacation may be taken from any rotation. No vacation may be taken during the month of December or inpatient service rotations. As per the ACGME Requirements, residents must have a minimum of 16 working days (or 32 half day sessions) in a rotation in order to receive full credit for that rotation.
Parking
Resident only parking available outside of Ruby Memorial Hospital at no cost.
Resident Library
In addition to the new, state of the art Learning Center that opened in January 2007, the Residents also have access to material in the Children's Hospital residents' work room. The comfortable area also contains individual work spaces and 24- hour on-line access to the National Library of Medicine and the Genome Data Base. Files are kept on a wide varierty of topics and subjects. Several monthly journals are also kept in the library. The library has 24-hour access to computer based learning in preparation for the board examination.
Professional Development Fund
All residents receive annual professional development. These funds are available to be used for books, software, exam fees, conferences and other approved items with educational value.
Educational Meetings
The program will provide a one-time reimbursement for presentations by a resident of a poster, article, abstract or project to a state, regional or national meeting up to $750 for hotel, meals, registration, and/or transportation. Professional conferences and meetings must be approved in advance by the Program Director and the Department Chair.

On campus child care is available for residents with small children at the WVUM Child Development Center. There is a waiting list for this service, so apply early.
A hospital cafeteria card is provided for meals when on call.
Residents also have access to the WVU Fitness/Recreation Center, complete with weight rooms, gymnasium, indoor/outdoor jogging tracks, climbing wall, indoor swimming pool, racquetball, squash, tennis courts as well as group fitness classes.
