Dean Gibson
Dean's Award for Excellence in Research 2004
Laura Gibson, PhD
In announcing the 2004 Dean's Award for Excellence winners, Dean Robert D'Alessandri cited the following in selecting Dr. Gibson as a recipient.
Our research award Laura Gibson from the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology. Dr. Gibson has been able to win and sustain an active NIH R01 funded research program, year after year, in a very competitive field. Everyone in her lab is aware of the connection between their basic research and the care we deliver to patients in the Blood and Marrow Transplant program.
Dr. Gibson is a real WVU success story – a PhD in the genetics program on the main campus, postdoctoral work with Dr. Landreth at the Cancer Center, and then a steady series of accomplishments on our faculty. Her lab is a very busy place, with grad students and interns in training throughout the year. She’s a mentor to junior faculty and residents who want to start a research career. She was appointed Vice Chair for Research in Pediatrics in December 2002 by Interim Chair, Norman Ferrari, MD.
