In announcing the 2003 Dean's Award for Excellence winners, Dean Robert D'Alessandri cited the following in selecting Dr. Perkins as a recipient.

Kathaleen Perkins, MDKathaleen Perkins, has established WVU as one of the centers of adolescent medicine for the pediatric profession across the country. It was because of her hard work that we developed a fellowship program in this specialty - one of only 20 in the U.S. She is tireless. She never says no when asked to present a lecture to medical students or residents. Her invention - the Perkins Adolescent Risk Screen - is in use around the country, and the world, and is even being translated into other languages. And, to ensure that WVU will always be a center for this important work, Dr. Perkins and her family have established an endowment to support adolescent medicine for future generations.
