Dean Saggio
Dean's Award for Excellence in Service to School 2001
Renee Saggio, MD
Renee Saggio probably didn’t anticipate that her work in the Department of Pediatrics would lead to taking care of applicants sick with worry over getting into medical school. As Chair of the School of Medicine’s Admission Committee, she not only personally reviews every application, she often meets with applicants at their request. She is kind, caring, and, even when she has to deliver news of rejection, encouraging.
Renee has many jobs. She’s Interim Section Chief of General Pediatrics, Pediatric Clerkship Director, Coordinator of the West Virginia CATCH Program, which works for Community Access to Child Health, and an active leader in Reach Out and Read, a children’s literary program. She’s the incoming president of the School of Medicine Alumni Association. Oh, and she’s the involved mother of 3 school-age children.
The School of Medicine has recognized her as Clinician of the Year. And her clinics are always booked solid. Students want to work with her. Residents want to learn from her. Parents want her to take care of their children. She expects a lot out of herself. The entire school benefits from her high standards.
