8 am to 5 pm EDT, Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11, 2024

This course will be delivered via Zoom videoconferencing. We will use WVU’s SOLE system to distribute additional course materials and administer the assessment center. Details and links will be sent to registered participants approximately 2 weeks before the course. Participants will need access to a computer with a broadband internet connection. Given the nature of the course and learning activities, use of iPads/tablets or mobile phones is not recommended.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program is a voluntary program designed primarily for PTs and PTAs interested in or involved in physical therapy clinical education including clinical instructors, site coordinators of clinical education, and directors of clinical education/academic coordinators of clinical education. It is recognized by APTA as a clinical instructor education and credentialing program. This course will be offered in a synchronous virtual format.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Following successful completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Plan and prepare for physical therapy students during their clinical education experience.
  • Support continuing education through questioning and effective feedback.
  • Acquire performance evaluation skills.
  • Identify and manage students with exceptional situations.
  • Recognize legal implications for clinical educators, including issues presented by ADA legislation.

COURSE FEES

  • $200 for APTA members
  • $300 for APTA non-members

Included as part of the course registration fee are the Level 1 manual (provided in electronic format), Assessment Center, CI credential (PT/PTA only) and CEU certificates, CI credential pin, and registry in the APTA database.

Registration Deadline

  • Friday, July 12, 2024. Registrations cannot be accepted after this date.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT

PT and PTA participants will earn 1.6 CEUs and the APTA CCIP Level 1 credential.

CEU policy: Neither the Clinical Instructor Credential nor CEU credit will be awarded to any participant who does not attend the full program. Each participant must attend all sessions of the course and Assessment Center in its entirety to be eligible for credentialing. Licensees should verify with their state licensing board for acceptance of CEUs by reviewing the relevant state practice act and/or administrative code. CANCELLATION POLICY

Individuals must cancel their registration and request a refund 72 hours before the start date of the course and return the CCIP course manual. The amount of the refund will be equivalent to the APTA portion of the course fee only ($100 for APTA members, $200 for non-members).

TRAINERS

Krissy Grubler, PT, DPT is a Clinical Associate Professor and former Director of Clinical Education at Wheeling University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from West Virginia University and received her tDPT degree from Shenandoah University Dr. Grubler is a credentialed trainer for the Level 1 and Level 2 CCIP courses. She serves on the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Advisory Workgroup (CCIW), the APTA CCIP Level 1 and Level 2 Curriculum Revisions Workgroups, and the APTA CCIP Booster Module Subcommittee.

Ralph Utzman PT, MPH, PhD is a Professor and Director of Clinical Education at West Virginia University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and master's degree in Public Health at WVU, and a PhD in Health Related Sciences/PT Track at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Utzman is a graduate of the APTA Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership. He is a credentialed trainer for the Level 1 and Level 2 CCIP courses. He is a past member of the CCIP Advisory Workgroup and currently serves on the APTA CCIP Booster Module and Level 3 Course Development subcommittees.
