Mid-Year Academy
Students in the School of Medicine Health Professions who meet certain criteria at the end of the Fall semester will be placed on academic notice for the Spring semester. Students placed on academic notice must raise their overall GPA to at least a 2.0 to be removed from academic notice. Criteria are as follows:
- First-time freshmen;
- Directly admitted to a School of Medicine Health Professions major (Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Exercise Physiology, Health Informatics and Information Management, Immunology and Medical Microbiology, Respiratory Therapy); and
- With a grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 at the end of the fall semester.
In order to provide assistance with returning to satisfactory academic standing, freshmen placed on academic notice at the end of the Fall semester must complete the following requirements:
- Meet with a designated advisor or success coach for:
- Mid-Year Academy which includes schedule adjustments and completion of an Academic Notice contract (January)
- One additional session during the spring semester
- Consultation prior to making any schedule adjustments
- Meet with your assigned advisor or success coach twice a month

Additional program-specific criteria to remain in good standing are below:
- Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics requires students to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and to achieve a semester GPA of 2.5 each semester in the program. Students falling below this standard may be dismissed from the program.
- Communication Sciences and Disorders requires students to maintain a GPA of 2.8 and a grade of C- or higher in all coursework applied to major requirements. Students falling below this standard may be dismissed from the program.
- Exercise Physiology requires students to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a grade of C- or higher in all graded courses required for the program. Students falling below this standard may be dismissed from the program.
- Health Informatics and Information Management requires students to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a grade of C- or higher in all graded courses required for the program. Students falling below this standard may be dismissed from the program.
- Immunology and Medical Microbiology requires students to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 in all coursework attempted and pass all major courses with a C or better.
- Respiratory Therapy requires students to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a grade of C or higher in all graded courses required for the program. Students falling below this standard may be dismissed from the program.
