General Urology:

Overview 

The Objective 

• Verbalize signs and symptoms of the most common general urology conditions:
  • Urinary incontinence, hematuria, UTIs, kidney stones, lower urinary tract symptoms (BPH)
• Demonstrate appropriate history taking as well as physical exam with verbalization of signs and symptoms of the above conditions
• Demonstrate appropriate laboratory/radiographic/medication orders for the above conditions
• Verbalize side effects of medications associated with the above conditions
  • Antibiotics, 5 Alpha reductase inhibitors, Alpha blockers
• Demonstrate an understanding of the appropriate follow up for monitoring of the above conditions  

The Opportunity 

• Six-month rotation with general urology service with exposure to general urology diagnosis, cystoscopy and urodynamic interpretation/training
• Daily clinic exposure to varied urologic clinical illness with opportunities to engage in direct patient care under direct supervision of senior advanced practice providers(APPs) within the department as well as faculty attending
• Weekly urology conferences (Wednesdays) with opportunity to gain exposure to clinical cases and lectures on urologic topics in general urology
• Weekly APP driven lectures on a variety of general urology topics  

Pediatric Urology

Overview

Pediatric urology focuses on treating our youngest and most vulnerable patients, children. Focusing on ailments from common illnesses such as nocturnal enuresis through childhood urologic malignancy, pediatric urology provides fellows with exposure to a wide variety of urology-centered disease.

The Objective

• Verbalize signs and symptoms of the five most common pediatric urology conditions:
  • Nocturnal enuresis, dysfunctional voiding, recurrent UTIs, penile adhesions, undescended testes
• Demonstrate appropriate history taking as well as physical exam with verbalization of signs and symptoms of the above conditions
• Demonstrate appropriate laboratory/radiographic/medication orders for the above conditions
• Verbalize side effects of medications associated with the above conditions
• Verbalize and demonstrate appropriate patient and family education on pediatric urologic procedures
• Demonstrate an understanding of the appropriate follow up for monitoring of the above conditions

The Opportunity

• Three-month rotation with pediatric urology service with exposure to pediatric urology clinic, dysfunctional voiding clinic, as well as myleomeningeocele multidisciplinary clinic
• Daily clinic exposure to varied urologic clinical illness with opportunities to engage in direct patient care under direct supervision of senior advanced practice providers (APPs) within the department as well as faculty attending
• Weekly urology conferences (Wednesdays) with opportunity to gain exposure to clinical cases and lectures on urologic topics in pediatric urology
• Weekly APP driven lectures on a variety of pediatric urology topics
• Monthly exposure to multidisciplinary pediatric clinic

Urologic Oncology:

OVERVIEW

Urologic oncology focuses on the evaluation and management of men and women who are facing the challenges associated with cancer diagnosis. This rotation exposes the fellow to many different urologic cancers, including prostate, bladder and testicle. Through multidisciplinary approaches, the fellow will have a chance to gain knowledge and insight into the management of these cases.

The Objective

• Verbalize signs and symptoms of the five most common urologic oncology conditions:
  • Prostate cancer, Bladder cancer, Renal cancer, testicle cancer, penile cancer
• Demonstrate appropriate history taking as well as physical exam with verbalization of signs and symptoms of the above conditions
• Demonstrate appropriate laboratory/radiographic/medication orders/interpretation for the above conditions
• Verbalize common medications used in the neoadjuvant and adjuvant setting for common urologic malignancy
• Verbalize and demonstrate appropriate patient and family education on urologic oncology procedures
• Demonstrate an understanding of the appropriate follow up for monitoring of the above conditions

The Opportunity

• Three-month rotation with urologic oncology service with exposure to urologic oncology clinic, multidisciplinary clinical collaboration as well as clinic procedures (cystoscopy)
• Daily clinic exposure to varied urologic clinical illness with opportunities to engage in direct patient care under direct supervision of senior advanced practice providers (APPs) within the department as well as faculty attending
• Weekly urology conferences (Wednesdays) with opportunity to gain exposure to clinical cases and lectures on urologic topics in urologic oncology
• Weekly APP driven lectures on a variety of urologic oncology topics
• Weekly multidisciplinary genitourinary tumor board conference with opportunity to discuss and gain insight into complicated urologic cancer care
• Provide direct patient care, under supervision to patients receiving BCG therapy, Gemcitabine+docitaxol intravesicle, Jelmyto, and many others
