Eastern Campus welcomes new student services manager Tonya Armstrong
Tonya Armstrong joined the West Virginia University School of Medicine Eastern Campus as the student services manager in November 2022.
Armstrong said she was drawn to the role because it provided her with the opportunity to help students navigate a crucial phase of their life as they complete the third and fourth years of their medical training. She said she also admires the dedication her co-workers have to helping students on their medical school journey.
“I feel very lucky to join a team as wonderful as the student services team here at the Eastern Campus. Everyone here is so dedicated to the students and want to do everything they can to help them succeed,” Armstrong said. “That makes for a truly positive and great working environment.”
A Leesburg, Va. native, Armstrong worked for WVU Medicine for nine years from 2012 to 2021. Most recently, Armstrong served as the Operations Director for Select Medical in Fairfax, Va. from 2021 to 2022. Prior to that role, she worked as a patient advocate for WVU Medicine Jefferson and Berkeley Medical Centers from 2019 to 2021. Armstrong also worked as an emergency room tech and physician liaison at Jefferson Medical Center from 2012 to 2018.
Armstrong earned her Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certification from Howard University in 2022. She also became a certified patient experience professional through the Patient Experience Institute in 2021. Armstrong graduated from the North Carolina College of Theology with a Bachelor of Science in Christian Counseling in 2012.
During her free time, Armstrong said she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, going to the movies, traveling, hiking, reading and shopping.
