Fellowship Mission
We, the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship Program, part of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology and Department of Anesthesiology of the West Virginia University, strive to deliver the highest quality patient care, education, and research in a compassionate, cost-effective manner. We promote excellence in cardiothoracic anesthesia health care for West Virginia through research, scholarship, and innovation. The educational mission of our Fellowship Program is to provide superior education and training in the clinical practice of adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology, anesthesiology research, medical economics, practice administration, quality improvement, and patient safety for Anesthesiology Fellows.
Program Specific Aims
Develop and maintain an Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship program that delivers high quality patient care, education, and research in a compassionate and cost-effective manner; provide superior education in a comprehensive 1-year fellowship in the clinical practice of adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology, research, medical economics, practice administration, quality improvement, patient safety and board exam preparation while maintaining an environment of wellness; train consultant level cardiac anesthesiologists prepared to enter clinical practice and with the ability to pass ABA and NBE examinations for board certification; and recruit gender-balanced, diverse, and tolerant fellows to train in a department that is welcoming to all.
