Pulmonology
The faculty of the department of pulmonary medicine at West Virginia University’s Charleston Campus are committed to providing the best possible care for patients with lung disease in Charleston and surrounding communities, and educating tomorrow’s leaders in the field of pulmonary medicine.
Our pulmonary faculty are specialists who are highly skilled in serving patients with a range of pulmonary conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
In addition to providing state-of-the-art care, our faculty provide training to students and residents in the clinical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment services of patients with health problems such as:
- Chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
- Asthma, including management option for severe persistent asthma
- Cystic Fibrosis (Adult) and Non-Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis
- Lung Cancer, including state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and treatment for airway tumors and malignant pleural effusions
- Interstitial Lung Disease, including Sarcoidosis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Occupational Lung Disease, and Granulomatous Lung Disease
- Pulmonary Vascular Diseases such as Pulmonary Hypertension, Pulmonary Emboli and Chronic Thromboembolic Disease
- Pulmonary vasculitis, including Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's granulomatosis), Chug-Strauss, Goodpasture’s Syndrome
- Lung Infections, including Tuberculosis, Nontuberculosis Mycobacterial Disease, Fungal Lung Infections and infections in patients with suppressed immune systems
