Medical Education and Administration Fellowship

The Division of Education and Training housed in the Department of Emergency Medicine at West Virginia University is proud to sponsor a 1 to 2-year fellowship for aspiring medical educators who seek to gain expertise in all aspects of medical education.  Fellows will learn alongside expert faculty from emergency medicine and throughout the WVU School of Medicine about bedside and didactic teaching, leading graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, constructing cutting edge simulation education/programs, and the business and financial logistics of an academic emergency department.  Our program will transform early career educators into budding leaders in the field of academic medicine and catapult them to leadership positions throughout their careers.

The fellowship program accepts up to 2 fellows per academic year and accepts applications from prospective fellows who have completed residency training in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics. Interested individuals who have completed primary residency training in another specialty not listed above are invited to contact program leadership to discuss the logistics of applying to the program.  For those fellows electing to complete a 2-year program, support will be provided for the fellow to obtain a Master’s degree in education, MHA, MBA, or MPH.

Program Aims:
This program aims to train the future leaders of academic medicine in how to apply educational and managerial principles, including effective leadership styles and team management, to create, lead, and sustain successful academic programs responsible for training the next generation of clinicians and academicians.
