Message from the Division Chief

Nadia Barghouthi, MD, MPH Interim Section Chief & Assistant ProfessorWe are proud to be a tertiary care center in the heart of Appalachia that serves a large rural and underserved population across multiple states. This allows us to provide individualized care and function as a hub for a diverse patient population. In addition to diagnosing and treating a wide range of hormonal conditions such as adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, and reproductive disorders, our multidisciplinary approach supports the needs of patients with more complicated diagnoses. This includes pregnant women with diabetes and patients with obesity in need of bariatric surgery or medical weight management. We are privileged to be supported by neurosurgery for patients with pituitary tumors, surgical oncology and endocrine surgery for thyroid, adrenal, pancreatic, and parathyroid tumors, and interventional radiology for invasive diagnostic testing such as adrenal vein sampling and inferior petrosal sinus sampling.

The WVU Department of Medicine Division of Endocrinology is known for our all-encompassing care of hormonal conditions and access to friendly and patient-centered care for vulnerable populations. We offer extensive support for our patients with diabetes through management of continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, a dedicated diabetes education team, and a group visit environment. We also offer both in-person and virtual telemedicine appointments to better serve the needs of our patient population.

Our endocrine fellowship benefits from the diversity and complexity that we see in the inpatient and outpatient setting. With dynamic research support and individualized mentorship, we help to foster the academic goals of our fellows. Our trainees learn from experts across the hospital system through interdisciplinary rotations, training in endocrine procedures such as thyroid ultrasounds and FNA biopsies of thyroid nodules, comprehensive education, and exciting inpatient consult rotations.

We look forward to working with you and welcoming you to the Mountaineer family.

Sincerely,

Nadia Barghouthi, MD, MPH
