Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for a respiratory therapist in May 2022 was $70,540 per year. Historically, the field of respiratory therapy has required a minimum of an associate's degree and licensure. However, baccalaureate degrees are increasingly in demand due to the expanding knowledge and skillset required as respiratory therapists.

The number of jobs for respiratory therapists in 2022 was 133,100, with the expected addition of 16,700 additional positions by 2032 (13% growth). Between anticipated growth and normal attrition, approximately 8,600 job openings are anticipated each year throughout the decade.
