Pediatric Surgery

The Division of Pediatric Surgery is committed to meeting the needs of young patients and their families. West Virginia University Children’s Hospital is a regional referral center for general pediatric care and pediatric subspecialties and offers welcoming, comfortable inpatient and outpatient environments for youngsters and parents. Our Pediatric Surgeons are part of a multidisciplinary team, providing diagnostic evaluation and treatment for infants, children and adolescents with hernias, birth defects, abdominal wall defects, intestinal disorders, gall bladder problems, lung and esophageal abnormalities, tumors, trauma and other surgical conditions. For patients with multiple surgical problems we work closely with other surgical specialties to provide all the care that the child needs. State of the art Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care Units are available for critically ill patients, and rapid transport via helicopter or our ground transport team makes our hospital services readily accessible. WVU Medical Center has been designated as a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, the only one in West Virginia. We see our surgical program as a resource for our State and are dedicated to ensuring that no child should ever have to leave the State to obtain the best possible surgical care.
