Lung Cancer Screening

The comprehensive thoracic oncology team at WVU works together for rapid diagnosis and expedited treatment. The thoracic tumor board meets weekly to discuss new patients, diagnostic workup, tagging and treatment plans. WVU’s team includes pulmonologists, radiologists, thoracic surgeons, pathologists, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists.

Early lung cancer screenings for high-risk patients without symptoms are being implemented to aid in the detection of lung cancer while treatments can still be curative. In patients without symptoms, not screening early enough can lead to a delay in diagnosis and in advancement in lung cancers that are less responsive to treatment.

WVU’s team guides the next steps in diagnosis when a pulmonary node is found during screen, CT scan or incidentally.
