Accelerated and Early Assurance Programs

The School of Medicine Health Professions offers multiple pathways for well-qualified students to pursue integrated pathways into graduate and professional study.

Athletic Training

Athletic Training Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's Program

Well-qualified first-time freshmen admitted to Exercise Physiology (e.g., high school GPA of 3.0 or greater, direct placement into CHEM 110/MATH 124) may be eligible for the Athletic Training Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's (ABM) Program. Additionally, currently enrolled Exercise Physiology students may apply to join the ABM. The ABM provides a pathway for students to enter the Master of Science in Athletic Training program early and complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees within five years.

Health Administration

Health Informatics and Information Management Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's Program

Well-qualified WVU Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) students (including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, in addition to other requirements) can apply for entry into the Accelerated Bachelor's to Master of Health Administration program. Successful applicants have the opportunity to complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees within five years.

Occupational Therapy

Master of Occupational Therapy

Students apply to the Master of Occupational Therapy program in their sophomore year and, if admitted, begin occupational therapy education their junior year, completing both a bachelor's and master's degree. For students entering West Virginia University directly from high school, the recommended degree for admission is Exercise Physiology as it contains all of the prerequisite courses needed to enter the occupational therapy master’s degree program as an undergraduate junior. However, applications from other degree programs are considered and encouraged as long as all MOT prerequisite courses are completed.

Occupational Therapy (OTD) Early Assurance Program

Well-qualified WVU Exercise Physiology undergraduate students (e.g., be a sophomore or junior EXPH student, have an undergraduate overall and OTD prerequisite GPA of 3.0) can apply to participate in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Early Assurance Program. Enrollment in the EAP guarantees admission into the OTD program for EAP students who satisfactorily complete all academic, prerequisite, and admissions requirements. It also allows EAP students to engage with occupational therapy faculty and students throughout their undergraduate studies.

Medicine

WVU Mountaineer Accelerated Pathway (MAP) to MD

Well-qualified first-time freshmen admitted to Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics, Exercise Physiology, or Immunology and Medical Microbiology and who meet the following additional criteria may apply to the competitive MAP to MD program. Applicants must be a citizen of WV or be a dependent of a WVU or WVU Medicine employee; have a minimum high school GPA of 3.8; and meet minimum ACT/SAT benchmarks (ACT of 30 with a minimum ACT math score of 27, or SAT of 1360 with a minimum SAT math score of 630). All ACT/SAT scores must be from a single test date with no subsections below the 50th percentile.

After applications are reviewed each year, selected applicants will advance to an interview. If accepted into MAP, students who remain in good standing and complete all MAP requirements are guaranteed an interview with the MD admissions committee, although acceptance to the WVU MD program is not guaranteed. However, MAP students who are admitted to the MD program and remain in good academic and professional standing will also receive scholarship support of at least $10,000/year.
