School of Medicine Alumni Association Awards
The Office of Alumni Affairs has several opportunities to recognize fellow alums for their efforts in several areas of accomplishment, including career, humanistic and community contributions and inclusiveness, among others.

Distinguished Alumnus Award
The Distinguished Alumnus Award is given annually to honor a graduate “whose distinguished career and unselfish contributions to society have enhanced the prestige of West Virginia University School of Medicine and, in his/her own special way, has helped to upgrade the quality of health care.”
Loyal West Virginia Physician Award
The Loyal West Virginia Physician Award is given to recognize a School of Medicine graduate for his/her compassionate care of West Virginia citizens, outstanding community service and dedication to the WVU School of Medicine.
WVU School of Medicine Early Career Award
The Early Career Award will be presented to an alumnus/ae of the WVU School of Medicine to recognize exceptional accomplishments in medicine, the community or to West Virginia University School of Medicine within 10 years of completion of residency or post-doctoral training. Particularly valued are contributions in the areas of clinical service, research, education, professional, public or community service, and/or administrative leadership in an organization or professional society.
WVU School of Medicine Outstanding Resident/Fellow Award
The Outstanding Resident/Fellow Award will be presented to an outstanding graduating resident or fellow of the WVU School of Medicine to recognize exceptional accomplishments in the science and art of medicine, the community or to West Virginia University School of Medicine and its alumni. The recipient will be recognized for excellence in the areas of the practice of medicine, academic activities, research accomplishments, professional, public or community service, and/or administrative leadership in an organization or professional society.
Award for Excellent in Promoting Inclusion and Cultural Diversity
The Award for Excellence in Promoting Inclusion and Cultural Diversity honors WVU School of Medicine alumni “whose actions, examples and efforts contribute to a respectful and supportive environment for everyone.”
