WVU School of Medicine Early Career Award

The Early Career Award will be presented to an alumnus/ae of the WVU School of Medicine to recognize exceptional accomplishments in medicine, the community or to West Virginia University School of Medicine within 10 years of completion of residency or post-doctoral training. Particularly valued are contributions in the areas of clinical service, research, education, professional, public or community service, and/or administrative leadership in an organization or professional society. This award was established in 2021 by the WVU School of Medicine Alumni Association.

Award criteria: 

To be considered for this award, a nominee should meet three of the following criteria:

  • MD or PhD graduate of the WVU School of Medicine
  • Has achieved impressive early career accomplishments in a clinical, educational, community service, research, or administrative role
  • Has demonstrated leadership abilities through holding a position(s) in an organization and/or professional societies
  • Has been significantly involved in their local community services (civic organization, local/state government, church, etc.)
  • Has played a major role in education, teaching and/or mentoring future physicians
  • Has made significant contributions in public health, research, or publications.

Nomination process and deadline: 

The required nomination form is posted online at medicine.hsc.wvu.edu/alumni. Nominations will be accepted until January 31.

  1. Complete the following:
    • Required Nomination Form
    • One nomination letter focusing on the nominee’s record
    • Nominee’s abbreviated curriculum vitae (limit 20 pages)
  2. Additional letters of recommendation are welcomed (maximum of 3), but not required.
  3. Submit information – online submission is preferred. Option: You may submit information as a Word document or PDF via email to the alumni office at alumni@hsc.wvu.edu
  1. Incomplete or late nominations received after the deadline will not be considered for this year and will be automatically saved for review next year.
  2. Nominations will be kept and reviewed for a period of 3 years or until the 10 year limit has passed for consideration.
  3. Updated materials may be requested by the Awards Committee.
  4. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
  5. All decisions by the Awards Committee are final.

Notification:

Recipient will be notified by the chair of the Awards Committee in sufficient time for him/her to be honored at WVU School of Medicine Alumni Weekend event held each fall.
