Fellowship Tracks

Critical Care Track

The Critical Care track is designed for Infectious Disease fellows who are interested in a focus in critical care medicine as part of their career goals. It is expected that all fellows who match into the combined ID/Critical Care pathway will complete this track during their Infectious Disease Fellowship prior to starting their Critical Care fellowship.

Track Timeline

ID Fellowship Year 1

  1. Develop research project with implications for infectious disease and critical care medicine.  Include faculty mentors from both the Infectious Disease and Pulmonary/Critical Care divisions.
  2. Develop QI project with implications for infectious disease and critical care medicine
  3. Complete a 4-week elective on the MICU service.
  4. Present 1 Journal Club article related to Infectious Disease and Critical Care at a combined ID/CCM journal club meeting
  5. Present a relevant patient case at 1 combined Infectious Disease/Critical Care joint Clinical Case conference.  
  6. Participate in regular mentorship meetings (quarterly?)

ID Fellowship Year 2

  1. Present research/QI project at a state/regional or national conference
  2. Present QI project at the WVU Medicine QI fair
  3. Complete a 4-week elective on the MICU service including at least one-week of night float
  4. Present 1 Journal Club article related to Infectious Disease and Critical Care at a combined ID/CCM journal club meeting
  5. Present a relevant patient case at 1 combined Infectious Disease/Critical Care joint Clinical Case conference.  
  6. Participate in regular mentorship meetings (quarterly?)

Fellows who successfully complete the above requirements will be awarded a non-ACGME approved certificate from the WVU Infectious Disease and Critical Care programs.
