Current WVU undergraduate students and transfer students from 2- or 4-year institutions are eligible to apply for Fall admission into the professional phase of the Respiratory Therapy program. All applicants — internal or external — must apply through the WVU application. Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be considered for admission:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.50

  • Meet all general admission requirements for WVU

  • Meet all Respiratory Therapy program prerequisites
    • General Biology I and Lab (4 hrs): BIOL 101 and 101L or BIOL 115 and 115L or equivalent
    • General Biology II and Lab (4 hrs): BIOL 102 and 102L or BIOL 117 and 117L or equivalent
    • Introductory Chemistry and Lab (4 hrs): CHEM 111 and 111L or CHEM 115 and 115L or equivalent
    • Composition and Rhetoric I (3 hrs): ENGL 101 or equivalent
    • Public Communication (3 hrs): COMM 104 or MDS 270 or equivalent
    • Introductory Psychology (3 hrs): PSYC 101 or equivalent
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology (4 hrs): PALM 205 and 206 or PSIO 107 or equivalent
  • Submit the WVU application

  • Write and submit a 350–1,000 word statement of interest as part of the WVU application

  • Provide two letters of recommendation

    • Send the recommendation form to your recommenders for them to complete. It is preferred that one recommendation come from a college science professor.

    • Do not complete the recommendation form yourself

Selection Process

Admission is offered based on the total score earned across five evaluation criteria (reflected in the linked attachment). Seats are awarded to applicants in order of highest overall score until the cohort is full.

If two or more applicants earn the same top score, the applicant(s) with the highest overall GPA will be offered the available seat(s).
