Aiden Aiello
Why did you choose your current major or program?
The amazing opportunities that would be available to me as a student and as a clinician once I graduate pulled me in.
Why did you choose WVU for your education?
As soon as I visited WVU, I knew I was home by how friendly and helpful everyone was. The amazing programs and faculty here further cemented my choice. Even though I’m from 5 hours away, WVU is my home away from home.
What do you eventually want to do in your career? What’s the end goal? Are there any postgraduate degrees or programs you want to pursue?
I want to be a pediatric occupational therapist, hopefully improving the lives of as many children and adolescents as I can. Educationally, I’d love to get my occupational therapy doctorate or another higher degree one day. I’d also love to get involved with the many research opportunities available within the field of occupational therapy.
Why do you feel this career will be rewarding and fits you uniquely?
I was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder as a child, and often felt excluded in school because of my limitations. As an OT, I can help other children feel better about themselves!
What would you tell a student who’s thinking about applying to your program?
It’ll be one of the most rewarding decisions if you do! Everyone looks out for you here, and they all want you to succeed.
Does your program have any hands-on learning or internship opportunities that you’ve particularly enjoyed?
The OT program has a huge emphasis on its simulated practical exams to immerse students in what it’s like to actually be an OT. They have helped me learn a lot and improve myself as a student greatly. I’m also very excited to start my fieldwork, as I will get to go into the field and assist in the treatment of real patients with an occupational therapist.
Have you had any faculty that you particularly enjoyed in class or through mentorship, etc.?
My advisor, Dr. Breanna Adkins, has been a huge support and motivator for me so far in the program. In actuality, every member of the OT program faculty has been integral to my success.
Are you active in any clubs or extracurricular activities?
I am a Resident Assistant on campus at Oakland Hall East. I am also a research assistant for Dr. Christina Duncan in the psychology department.
Tell us something unique or interesting about yourself that others may not know. Hobbies, talents, superlatives, etc.
I won “most likely to be famous” in high school! I also strongly enjoy reading, building LEGO sets, and learning new things about my field.
Special Honors/Memberships
I received the Professional Programs Master of Occupational Therapy Award in Fall 2023.
