Distinguished Teacher Award
Established in 1986, this award is given annually to recognize and reward exceptional teaching and/or innovation in teaching methods, course and curriculum design, and instructional tools. A principle criterion is that the nominee should be considered to be among the very best teachers, at any rank, in the School of Medicine. The selection is made by a committee of faculty and students. The committee solicits nominations, and reviews supporting documents in making the selection. The winner is also the School of Medicine nominee for the University Distinguished teaching award.
In 2008, under the leadership of Dean John Prescott, the award was expanded to include four faculty annually in two categories for senior and junior faculty members, and for those involved in the MD curriculum and those involved in the non-MD degree programs in the School of Medicine.
