Outstanding Resident/Fellow Award

The Outstanding Resident/Fellow Award will be presented to an outstanding graduating resident or fellow of the WVU School of Medicine to recognize exceptional accomplishments in the science and art of medicine, the community or to West Virginia University School of Medicine and its alumni. The recipient will be recognized for excellence in the areas of the practice of medicine, academic activities, research accomplishments, professional, public or community service, and/or administrative leadership in an organization or professional society. This award was established in 2021 by WVU School of Medicine Alumni Association and associated hospitals.

Award Criteria

To be considered for this award, nominees should meet at least three of the following criteria:

  • A resident or fellow who is completing his/her post-doctoral training at WVU School of Medicine regional campuses (regardless of where they obtained their doctoral degree or equivalent)
  • Has achieved impressive accomplishments in a clinical, educational, community service, research, or administration
  • Has played a major role in education, teaching and/or mentoring future physicians
  • Has demonstrated leadership abilities through holding a position(s) in an organization and/or professional societies
  • Has been significantly involved in their local community services (civic organization, local/state government, church, etc.)
  • Has made significant contributions in public health, research or publications
