John E. Jones Award for Academic Excellence, formerly known as the Merck Award

This award was renamed in 2012 after former School of Medicine Dean and HSC Vice President John E. Jones who died earlier that year. He was a long standing faculty member in the division of Endocrinology of the Department of Internal Medicine, and was an outstanding diagnostician. This award is sponsored by Merck & Company, Inc. to recognize scholastic achievement by senior students for outstanding performance in the clinical sciences during the third and fourth year of the curriculum. . The award consists of the Merck Manual for Diagnosis and Therapy.
