What do you currently intend to pursue as a future career? Is there an experience you’ve had that made you realize why you chose this profession or specialization?
I would like to become a clinical laboratory scientist.
What makes you excited about pursuing this field?
Being a clinical laboratory scientist the majority of the workload is hands on, and it provides one with the ability to play a role in patient care while working behind the scenes.
Why did you choose your major program?
I chose this major because it aligns with my personality of always wanting to finding out “why” various situations happened, “what” triggered these various situations and “how’ can these situations be solved or improved on. I also chose this major because I love working in a laboratory setting contributing to the health sector.
Why did you choose to attend WVU?
Statistics about WVU's Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostic program was one of the major factors that contributed to me attending WVU; it proved that the program was established and was one that was continuously growing. In addition I was offered a track and field scholarship to attend WVU.
What would you tell prospective students about your experience at WVU, and particularly the School of Medicine?
I love WVU and the School of Medicine. I would say that the overall academic criteria can be challenging, but with great time management skill students are able to prevail. Also, the School of Medicine does not only provide students with skills necessary for the working environment, but it also provides students with lifelong lesson that will help them grow as an individual.
Have you received any particular honors or awards during your time in the School of Medicine?
I have made the President's List once and the Dean’s List twice in the School of Medicine.
Will you share something unique or interesting about you that others may not know?
I am from Jamaica but I live in Canada.
