FALL FAFSA FRENZY Financial Aid and Student Services are hosting a FAFSA completion workshop on Wednesday, Oct 25 from 1-3 pm in 2940A. File your FAFSA with help from the experts! Contact Amy with any questions.
ALL STUDENTS - FLU SHOT REQUIREMENT: All MD students are required to post confirmation current flu vaccine to CastleBranch no later than December 1, 2017. You can receive this vaccine at any health clinic or pharmacy. Save your confirmation of immunization, e.g. receipt, doctor's note, etc. Castle Branch will notify you when the report opens to receive this document.
HSC TOWN HALL to focus on children’s health with guest speaker, J. Philip Saul M.D., executive vice president of WVU Medicine Children’s. He will be hosted by WVU Vice President and Executive Dean for Health Sciences, Clay Marsh, M.D. The session is available online for those who cannot attend.
NEW HSC STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER. As a result of students’ feedback, the Health Science Center will be installing some a ping pong/pool table/foosball table/checkers/chess and backgammon table and additional vending machines in the lounge near the bookstore within the next 2-4 weeks. Please remember that we share this and others resources (e.g., study carrels in the blue and gold room) with other learners in the health sciences. There is a tote located in the Student Lounge with extra ping pong paddles, chess set, checkers and backgammon that can be checked out just please remember to sign them out and return them. Enjoy!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY WVU Medicine is hosting an open house at the new outpatient facility in Fairmont, WV. Medical Students are encouraged to volunteer in helping teach hand hygiene to children, “wound care” to teddy bear “patients”, explaining why shots are important or doing basic exam skills. Contact Heather Hanks and learn more about the open house.

RURAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM The WVU Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that the applications for its innovative Rural Scholars Program are now available. This program is designed for students committed to making rural/small town Family Medicine in West Virginia a career. Qualified MS III’s are eligible for a $10,000 stipend for their fourth year and facilitated admission to WVU’s Morgantown Family Medicine Residency. The Rural Scholars Program allows for an enhanced primary care experience in the 4th year curriculum as well as early integration into the residency experience. Deadline for application is January 15, 2018. Please contact Holly Maroon if you would like information on how to apply.

Y2Q has been completed by 55% of the class! If you get 100% completion your class will get an extra $500 for Wellness Activities. Look for another reminder email from the AAMC soon.
VOLUNTEER IN THE GROSS ANATOMY LAB. The structure of the lab will be based on stations highlighting the anatomy of the head, neck, and torso. You will earn community service hours for your time, and Dr. Klinkhachorn can advise you as to the amount of time you can count for this lab experience. The current proposed date for this lab is MONDAY, November 6th from 1:00pm-2:00pm (give or take a half n hour on either end). If you are interested in helping, please email Dr. Kimberly Meigh at kmmeigh@mail.wvu.edu.

SHELF EXAMS Friday, October 20, 2017. The Shelf Exam will be in the Library Computer Lab (First Floor WVU Building). You will have Desktop Computers, NO NEED FOR MAC BOOKS!!! Please arrive by 8:00am so we can check you in by 8:15am and begin at 8:30am.

PEDS GRAND ROUNDS is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.
VOLUNTEER SPEAKING OPPORTUNITY – Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session. NAU MODULE: Dr. Johnson and Dr. Kletter strongly encourage you to review the Surgery clerkship on SOLE for directions/samples for writing admissions orders and brief op notes. Remember that you need 3 graded H&P’s by the end of the semester.
BOTH MODULES: Be sure you are logging your cases/procedures in E-value. All case logs MUST be complete prior to final exams, as required by the curriculum. If you have questions, contact Jane Horst or Michelle Alder at 304-596-6312.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES – Fall CHOICES program sponsored by Shepherd University is looking for medical student volunteers for several events. Grant-funded, interdisciplinary educational program to assist community members who have diabetic/metabolic health issues with making proper food choices.
