March 23 = GOLD HUMANISM HONARY SOCIETY (GHHS) is hosting a conference called Appalachian Healthcare: Meeting the Needs of Patients and Communities. It will take place in the WVU Building on the CAMC Memorial campus in Kanawha City on March 23 from 9-3, and lunch will be provided. The goal of this conference is to examine Appalachians as an invisible minority, and to discuss common obstacles faced in the area, such as poverty, mental illness, addiction, limited access to healthcare, and coal related health issues. April 26 = COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:  Health Fair Tuesday April 26, 1-3 pm, at the Federal Correctional Institution in Morgantown, Volunteers needed to run 20 different informational booths - nutrition, exercise, cancer, dental care, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Questions? Tim Owens

SCHOLARSHIP OFFER:  NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Deadline April 28.  

ESSAY CONTEST:  The Lasker Foundation 2016 competition to write on the topic, "Which fundamental discoveries in basic medical research have not been clinically explored and translated into better human health?" First prize is $10,000 and a trip to New York to meet the 2016 Lasker Award winners. Deadline is April 25.

What’s Happening – Morgantown

PATHOLOGY INTEREST GROUP: On Monday 3/28 noon, Erma Byrd Conf Rm #2.  Dr. Perrotta will discuss Clinical Pathology as a career for the medical students. Other pathology faculty and trainees will be there. There will also be students from the Marshall University School of Medicine Pathology Interest Group at this event, so we invite you to come learn about Clinical Pathology and meet other students interested in pathology.  RSVP to Asmittle@hsc.wvu.edu by Wed. 3/23. 

PATHOLOGY INTEREST GROUP DINNER RE: RESIDENCY PROGRAMS:  Friday 4/8 from 6-8PM, a casual dinner at Black Bear Burrito in Evansdale with a discussion led by Drs. LaSala and DelTondo on pathology residency programs. Again at this event other pathology faculty and trainees will be there. PSYCHIATRY INTEREST GROUP meeting March 17 at noon in Okey Patteson auditorium! We will be having Dr. Grey speak to us about how physicians can handle death and dying while supporting patients that are facing it. SPECIAL COMMUNITY/SCHOOL SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:  M2 Volunteers needed to assist a gross anatomy lab coordinated by Drs. Klinkhachorn and Meigh for graduate students in the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).  The lab is based on stations of the head, neck, and torso. Proposed dates for this lab are MONDAY, April 11th, April 18th, or April 25 from 1:00pm-2:00pm (give or take a half hour on either end).   Interested?  kmmeigh@mail.wvu.edu. CHARLESTON BASED M2 STUDENTS:  An informal meet and greet with current Charleston Division M3 & M4 students will be held at the Waterfront Hotel, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 a 5:00 PM.  Dinner provided.  Please mark your calendars.  Attendance is expected.  Watch your email for more information.

STEP 1 ANNOUNCEMENT:  The target date for reporting Step 1 scores for most examinees testing the week of May 9 through late June will be Wednesday, July 13, 2016. For examinees whose circumstances require that they receive Step 1 scores before July 13, it is recommended that they take Step 1 no later than May 7.
