SoM Community News and Happenings

ALL STUDENTS – SPRING REGISTRATION was sent this week via your class email.  Full-time (9 hours) are required of all active students.  Registration deadline is November 20th.  Tuition payment is due December 18th.  Check your MIX/STAR account for any financial aid issues or University holds that will prevent you from registering.

The HSC South, Betty Puskar Breast Care Center entrance will be closed Saturday, November 12th  from 6:00 am until 12:00 pm (noon) for AT & T to conduct a crane lift.  Please use the Learning Center Entrances as an alternate entrance/exit. 

Sunday, November 13th from 7 am - noon Information Technology will be adding new features to WVU Login system while this is being done you will not be able to reset passwords during this time. 

THE RACKII@HSC:  HSC has opened a WVU Health Sciences Campus Food bank to assist with campus-wide efforts to address the growing population of homeless and/or hungry employees/students.    The Rack II@HSC officially opened on Tuesday, Oct. 25th in Room 308 on the Ground Floor of Health Sciences (adjacent to the Market restaurant area). The pantry will be open Tuesdays (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Wednesdays (3-5 p.m.) and Thursdays (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).  Health Sciences employees and students may visit The Rack II during those times and take what they need. Students/employees will be required to complete a one-time form (used for data purposes only) upon their first visit to the Rack II.

DID YOU GET YOUR FLU SHOT YET?  Consider getting it now and uploading into CastleBranch.  Reports are that the flu is already starting to spread in the area.  CastleBranch   The deadline is December 1st.  Failure to complete this requirement WILL prohibit you from patient contact. 

STUDENT ORGANIZATION HAPPENINGS:  Check out this announcement link which contains all the many upcoming Student Organization activities.  Remember to RSVP accordingly.

SPECIAL COMMUNITY DRIVE:  SAFE Clinic Student Organization is having a toiletry drive for the Mylan Puskar Health Right Clinic.  Please, drop of toiletry items such as shampoo, soap, tooth brushes, deodorant, and underwear to the box in Student Services.  We will be doing the drive until the end of the year.  Remember, every $10 of purchased items counts as 1 hour of community service!  Questions, Phillip Pifer

LAST CALL - SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: Volunteers needed to help with a speech therapy gross anatomy lab being coordinated by Dr. Klinkhachorn for undergrad students in the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).   Community service hours for your time.  The current proposed date for this lab is MONDAY, November 14 from 1:30-2:30pm. Interested?  Kimberly Meigh.  

THIRD YEAR SCHEDULING CLASS MEETING:  Thursday, January 12th, 2017 12-5 pm.  ATTENDANCE REQUIRED for all students beginning third year in the 2017-2018 academic year.  Summer registration information will be distributed at this meeting.

SUMMER EXPERIENCES & REQUIRED MEETING:  It may seem early, but we know you will soon begin over the holidays to consider your plans even for summer 2017!  Mark your calendars for a required class meeting on Wednesday, January 11th, 3:30-5:30 pm at which time you will complete summer registration.  Also during this meeting you will participate in the University required Title IX training being presented to all students, faculty and staff.  In the meantime, feel free to peruse the SOLE Academic Enrichment site so as to familiarize yourself with what we have known and what we are learning about summer 2017 opportunities.

Please be sure to register for the NRMP so that you can participate in the Match! You must be registered for both. 

Registration for the Spring Semester- is being sent to you today.  Please review your schedule, and register before Nov. 20th for the spring semester.  If you do not have the minimum 9 credits for the spring, please contact the Student Services Office.  

CAREER COUNSELING DATES:

GTR#4- Jan. 5th, 4 - 5:00 pm., Multimedia Classroom, - Video Conference presentation available on all campuses: Match and SOAP review.

GRADUATION WEEKEND:  As announced, the MD Graduation/Investiture Ceremony will take place Friday, May 12th, 6:00 pm, Creative Arts Center.  Final details for the events surrounding this special occasion are still being confirmed.

PEDS GRAND ROUNDS is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC.  The rest of the Wednesday is at the ED conference room in ED of BMC.  If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.
