IMPORTANT FOR ALL STUDENTS - REVISED HANDBOOK POLICY ITEM:  The WVU Board of Governors recently updated Policy 44: “Policy Regarding Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment, Sexual & Domestic Misconduct, Stalking, and Retaliation” .  The link to this policy is posted in the Handbook on SOLE.  As noted in the policy, “West Virginia University is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture by promoting diversity, inclusion, equality, and intercultural and intercommunity outreach… This Policy sets forth how discrimination, harassment, sexual and domestic misconduct, certain consensual relationships, stalking, and retaliation will be addressed by West Virginia University.” If you have questions, please contact Dr. Ferrari or Dr. Cottrell.  

SEEKING A SNOW BALL DRIVER Saturday, Jan 16:  The First Year Class is seeking help from an upper-class person who would be interested in serving the community by being the designated driver of a 12-passenger van the MS1 class may rent to help get people safely home from Snow Ball this coming Saturday night. Specifics are not finalized, but the assignment would basically involve making several trips from downtown to an HSC lot or some other point convenient to many of our residences.  Contact dqbrubaker@hsc.wvu.edu .

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE ANNUAL TALENT SHOW! Monday, March 21, 2016; 6:30pm, Okey Patteson Auditorium.  Please join us for this philanthropic event to support your talented classmates & receive an hour of community service!

SURGICAL RESEARCH AWARD:  Deadline is Jan 15 2016!  SAGES Membership Committee is offering three (3) scholarships to attend the SAGES Surgical Spring Week of 2016, March 16-19 in Boston, MA. There they will be given an opportunity to interact, train and experience some of the courses SAGES offers.  Three medical students will receive a complimentary registration, a $2,000 check, an award certificate and recognition during the meeting. Open to students enrolled in the US and/or Canada. SAFE CLINIC VOLUNTEERING at Health Right clinic is starting back up for the month of January. We have many spots available for students to shadow/work with many physicians who volunteer at health right. Specialties include GI, derm, psych, cardiology, and family practice. MEETING REMINDER THURSDAY - THIRD YEAR SCHEDULING CLASS MEETING:  Thursday, January 14, 2-5 pm.  ATTENDANCE REQUIRED for all students beginning third year in the 2015-2016 academic year.

REMINDER - WHITE COAT TRY-ON:  Thursday, January 14, 1-2 pm, JJ #2.  Alumni Office will be there to size your white coat so they can place the order for the White Coat Ceremony.  ALL Class of 2018 students should make every effort to stop by to complete this task.

STEP 1 APPLICATION Deadline March 15.  Bring your completed photo form to Student Services for processing and certified mailing.  (print name on the back of the photo before attaching) 

WHITE COAT DATES:  January 14 – coat try on; January 25 – parents’ addresses to Gina; March 14 noon – White Coat meeting; March 18 3-4 pm – White Coat Rehearsal; March 19, 10 am CEREMONY. 

EASTERN OPEN HOUSE for M2 students is now scheduled for Friday, Mar. 25th, 9:30am to 3:00pm.  Students will tour the Eastern Division, meet our current students and have a hospital tour and participate in Friday Education.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES:  The Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry is offering a Psychiatry Summer Externship for current 1st year WVU medical students to take place in the summer before 2nd year of medical school. The externship is paid for up to 3 externs at $1500 for a 4 week commitment. This is a clinical observership experience across a broad array of psychiatry services in our department. What’s Happening This Week – Charleston

KANAWHA COUNTY HARM REDUCTION CLINIC SUPPLY DRIVE!!  We will be collecting cotton balls, brown paper bags, alcohol swabs, tourniquets, laundry and fabric softener containers (rinsed and dried out). There is a box in the 3rd floor lounge by the microwave where you can drop off the items. These donations can be tracked as community service per the donations policy listed on SOLE. Please email Michelle Angeline at mraney1@mix.wvu.edu or Blair Saul at bcsaul@mix.wvu.edu with any questions.
